"Most fitness consulting starts with technique.
We start with connection — because that's what brings people back."
You've invested in the space, the equipment, the brand. But the client experience is delivered by one thing none of those investments can replace: the person in the room.
The instructor is the brand vehicle. Not the logo, not the lighting, not the equipment. The person standing in front of your clients is the reason they come back — or don't. Without a development framework, that experience is inconsistent, growth is accidental, and your best people plateau without knowing why.
The RC Standard exists to change that.
RC. Two letters. One idea. Real Connection.
The RC Standard is a consulting and development methodology that assesses instructors and fitness staff against a structured framework, coaches them to their individual strengths, and establishes a shared standard that an entire team can be held to.
It is not a generic evaluation tool. Every instructor already does something that works — something distinctly theirs that clients respond to before any coaching begins. The RC Standard finds that thing, names it, and builds everything else around it.
The framework is used across boutique fitness studios and luxury hospitality properties. The categories stay consistent. What excellence looks like within each one shifts to match the context — because a five-star instructor at a Four Seasons and a five-star instructor at a high-intensity boutique are two different people doing two very different jobs.
"These aren't things we teach. They're things you already do that are worth knowing you do — and worth doing more intentionally."
"The best studio cultures are built by leaders who hold high standards and develop their people to exceed them — the same way this framework approaches developing every instructor it touches."
In hospitality, the fitness experience rarely has the luxury of a full roster. Often it comes down to one instructor, one class, one interaction with a guest who has already been treated exceptionally everywhere else on the property.
The RC Standard works to ensure that moment matches everything that surrounds it — assessing the individual delivering the experience, aligning their approach to the brand's identity, and developing the skills that make a guest feel the same level of care in the gym that they felt at check-in.
The community in your studio didn't happen by accident. It was built class by class, instructor by instructor, by the feeling clients get when they walk through your door and feel like they belong.
That community is your greatest asset — and it's more fragile than it looks. One instructor who doesn't connect can quietly undo what took years to build. Most of the time, nobody tells you. They just stop coming back.
Travel and accommodations are billed separately for out-of-area engagements.
"The instructor is the brand vehicle. Not the logo, not the space, not the equipment. The person in the room is the reason a client comes back — or doesn't."
Rick Chavez didn't come to fitness through a single door. He came through several — and that's precisely what makes the RC Standard different from every other framework in the industry.
He entered the fitness world in 2006, eventually becoming a personal trainer, group fitness coach, and one of the early adopters of CrossFit before it became a global phenomenon. But fitness was never his only world. For years, Rick operated at the intersection of high-performance service industries — six years with Apple Retail and a leadership tenure at T-Mobile where he ranked among the top one percent of sales managers nationally, delivering triple-digit year-over-year growth.
Those years shaped something that most fitness professionals never develop: a deep, cross-industry understanding of what makes people feel seen, served, and loyal. Today he serves as Master Instructor for Barry's and Trufusion, International Master Trainer & Educator for Technogym, and has led fitness programming for some of Miami's most prestigious hotel properties.
Since 2017, Rick has served as host and community builder of Stay Fit 305 — South Florida's leading fitness community — connecting Miami's instructors, studios, and brands for nearly a decade.
The RC Standard is the distillation of everything learned across twenty years of selling, leading, teaching, and coaching in industries that all share one truth: the person in front of the client is everything. Develop that person, and you develop the brand.
If you're building or refining a fitness program and want to know what it would look like to bring the RC Standard into your property or studio, the first conversation is always about fit — whether the engagement makes sense for where you are and where you want to go. Thirty minutes, no pitch.
